Tic based cermet and ticn based cermet

Nowadays, in industry application, there are two kinds of cermets, namely TiC-based and TiCN-based cermets.

 

Compared with TiC-based cermets, TiCN-based cermets have much higher high-temperature hardness, higher transverse rupture toughness, better resistance to oxidation, and much higher thermal conductivity (for details please check in Table 1). Moreover, due to the much finer grains of the hard phase in TiCN-based cermets, the resistance to high-temperature creep deformation of TiCN-based cermets is much better than that of TiC-based cermets.

 

And during the machining with TiCN-based cermet cutting tools, it is much more difficult for the formation of oxidation layers, scaling, crescent depression and built-up edges, which is attrib-uted to the higher enthalpy in formation of TiCN, as compared with TiC-based cermets. Considering all the above-mentioned facts, TiCN-based cermet cutting tools have already been selected in the use of high-speed milling, finishing and semi-finishing of carbon steels and stainless steels.

 

Even in the cutting of some high hardness and high strength materials which cannot be machined by TiC-based cutting tools, with TiCN-based cermet cutting tools, it is quite easy to achieve excellent surface smoothness and minute dimension deviation. Conse-quently, TiCN-based cermets have become the predominant cutting tool material in industry, gradually replacing TiC-based cermets in many applications.

1)make holes for tic rods on the foam molds
2)Weld iron nails onto TiC rods
3)Insert rods into foam mold
4)Coating 3 times, dry before each coating
5)Sealing, casting and water toughing treatment
6)Surface treatment
